Description

Swing Shift Cinderella Red Hot and Wolfie Rough Animation Drawing by Preston Blair (MGM, 1945). "Oh Wolfie, oh Wolfie, ain't you the one! Oh Wolfie, oh Wolfie, ain't we got fun?" The seductive bombshell Red Hot of Tex Avery's Swing Shift Cinderella croons to Wolfie, taking his paw in this original rough animation drawing by the accomplished Preston Blair (1908 - 1995). Debuting as her fifth film on August 25, 1945, this MGM short spoofed the classic fairy tale to grand effect. Like all her appearances, Red's animation in this film primarily handled by Blair who is known for his contributions to Disney features including Fantasia's (1940) "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Dance of the Hours" segments and his subsequent work in Avery's MGM unit, as well as for authoring several How-To books on cartoon animation. Spotted near the 5:20 timestamp when viewed online, Red leaves the stage to sing tableside to Wolfie taking his paw and causing him flash with passion like a neon sign. Rendered loosely in graphite, half-figured Wolfie and nearly full-figured Red share a frame-filling combined image area of approximately 10" x 7.75" nicely centered on the double-punched 12 field animation sheet which is numbered 16 in the lower right an includes animator's notes for Wolfie within the image area. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, minor corner creasing, and an edge stain near the upper left corner, overall this sultry song is in Very Good condition.
