Description

Superman (The Mad Scientist) Swaying Daily Planet Building Layout Drawing (Max Fleischer, 1941). The Mad Scientist's death ray is aimed at the tall Daily Planet skyscraper, in this first animated cartoon starring the Man of Steel, Superman. Here's an original layout drawing of the building as it dips down low; you can see a similar image in the short, at the 7:18 mark in online viewings (we've included a screen grab of the scene for comparison). The small image of Superman in the drawing is a pasted-on drawing with white "whoosh" lines drawn on the paper; we believe this was added by the Studio, as it matches the action online when Superman flies in to save the swaying building, and fight back the death ray. WOW, what a great, and HUGE image! The art is in graphite on a sheet of 16 field animation paper, with an approximate image size of 13.25" x 10". There's a studio stamp in the upper left corner, and the handwritten notation "Rendering Guide" in the top margin. Condition is Good, with handling/edge wear, fold creases, and paper toning.
