Description

Superman (The Mad Scientist) Layout Drawing with Volcano Superman and Lois Lane Animation Drawings Group of 3 (Max Fleischer, 1941/1942). Here are three rare original animation production drawings made for the legendary Fleischer Studio Superman cartoons. The first is an incredible background layout drawing of Lois Lane after landing her plane at the Mad Scientist's Art Deco-inspired mountain-top lair; this is from the very first Superman cartoon in the series, which was released to theaters on 9/26/1941. The scene appears at about the 4:40 mark. This is a 16 field drawing, with an image in graphite measuring approximately 14" x 10"; it's noted in the top margin as "Rendering Guide" and "Sc #42." Also included are two 12 field animation drawings from the eighth short in the series, Volcano, released on 7/10/1942; the first is of Superman as he stands in the path of burning lava at about the 6:24 mark, while the other is of Lois, attempting to cross over the fiery menace by way of rope, as seen at about the 5:37 mark. Both Lois drawings have fold creases. Good to Very Good condition with handling/edge wear and age-related paper toning.
