Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse Animation Drawing with Walt Disney Signature (Walt Disney, 1928). Few cartoons can claim greater historical relevance than Steamboat Willie and the success of this groundbreaking cartoon established Disney as the world's preeminent animation studio. Here is an original Ub Iwerks animation drawing of Mickey Mouse in his premiere theatrical appearance. The short was directed by Walt himself and was the first Disney cartoon to feature "synchronized sound". It is listed as #13 in Jerry Beck's book "50 Greatest Cartoons", and was also selected for preservation by the US National Film Registry in 1998. In this scene at around 6:09 mark, Mickey is playing cow's teeth like a xylophone to the tune of "Turkey in the Straw". It's a wonderful smiling image of Mickey measuring approximately 4" x 2" rendered in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole paper. Framed along with the drawing is a Walt Disney signature on rare personal stationary. Inset in the mat is a black and white printed image of the scene in which the drawing appeared. The art and signature share a common frame under glass that measures 21" x 16.5". The artwork shows minor handling and condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.
