Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse and Pete Animation Drawing Original Art (Walt Disney, 1928). This historic cartoon premiered on November 18, 1928 at the Colony Theater. The short was directed by Walt Disney; he also provided the voice for Mickey Mouse. Animation was done by Disney legend Inductee, Mr. Ub Iwerks. This is a Holy Grail piece of Disney animation art -- a rare 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of both Mickey Mouse and Peg Leg Pete. It is from the scene where Pete comes and grabs Mickey, after his on-deck musical interlude, and he throws him into the bin to peel potatoes. You can see this image around the 7:02 mark. Animation drawings featuring both characters from this short are considered extremely rare. This is graphite on animation sheet with large images of 6" and 8"; the number 493 is written in the bottom corner and a blue stamp number 400 is on reverse. An actual screen grab print that matches this drawing is included. This piece of Disney history is matted with an opening of 13" x 10" and is framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 21" x 18". Frame is sold as-is; art condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
