Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse and Boat Animation Drawings Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1928). This landmark piece of animation history opens with a title card that reads "Mickey Mouse Sound Cartoon - 'Steamboat Willie' - A Walt Disney Comic - By Ub Iwerks." The opening scene is Mickey's boat, the side-wheeler steamboat chugging along. This is a rare animation preliminary layout of the boat and the black clouds of smoke it shoots out of its chimney. Graphite on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper with 16 written in the bottom right corner. Blue stamp number on back is 33. Also in the lot is a 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of Mickey Mouse as he "plays" the teeth of a large cow at the 6:27 mark. The number 310 is in the bottom right corner, with a blue 305 stamp on the reverse. That's a pair of Ub Iwerks original drawings from the historic first widely released Mickey Mouse short! This cartoon was completely drawn by Ub Iwerks and directed by Walt Disney. It premiered on November 18, 1928 at New York City's Colony Theater. This landmark cartoon placed #13 on Jerry Beck's 50 Greatest Cartoons list, and in 1998 it was inducted by the Library of Congress for preservation in the US National Film Registry. We have never seen any artwork of the boat from the very beginning of this cartoon before this. Nice images of 4" and 7". Again, that's two Ub Iwerks (1901 - 1971) historic originals in this lot. Minor handling and edge wear. In Good condition.
