Description

SpongeBob SquarePants Style Guide/Publicity Rough Model Drawings Original Art Group of 5 (Nickelodeon, c. 1999-2000s). Here's a lot with all the nautical nonsense you could wish for, an outstanding group of 5 original rough style guide/publicity model drawings featuring Nickelodeon's wildly popular SpongeBob SquarePants. In media and animation a style guide, also known as a design or show bible, is an exhaustive compendium that typically includes character information and model sheets, setting and story, and other important details to help keep all aspects of the show cohesive from episode development to consumer products. SpongeBob SquarePants debuted in 1999 as one of the final original Nicktoons of the decade, and quickly grew to immense levels of popularity. He soon appeared on a wide variety of merchandise as well as throughout the pages of Nickelodeon's eponymous children's magazine with at least 16 cover features. This collection of rough drawings showcase SpongeBob in some of his most memorable Season 1 roles including playing with bubbles, dressed as Mermaid Man, and singing "F.U.N." with Plankton as well as painting a self-portrait and looking quite nervous (maybe he 'forgot' the pickles?). Each model drawing has been rendered loosely in graphite over blue pencil to image areas ranging from 3.5" x 4" to 6.25" x 5.25" on sheets of bond paper measuring standard letter size of 11" x 8.5" and each bearing notes on where and how to refine the images. With typical handling and edge wear including remaining tape at the edges, small areas of faint smudging, and minor corner creasing, overall these rough model drawings are in Very Good condition.
