    Description

Song of the South Br'er Rabbit Storyboard Drawing (Walt Disney, 1946). Br'er Rabbit struts around with his hands on his red suspenders in this fabulous original storyboard drawing, attributed to Bill Peet. Song of the South is based on the Uncle Remus stories first published in 1881. These folk tales, using animal characters, were heard by author Joel Chandler Harris while working as a journalist in post-Reconstruction Atlanta. These stories were not seen as racist at the time, treating the old storyteller with respect, and the film followed suit. Today's audiences are more sensitive to racial stereotypes, which has resulted in the film being withdrawn from theaters by Disney, and never released on home video. The controversy does not dim the beauty of the artwork, which is highly prized by collectors. This splendid piece is in Conté crayon on paper measuring 8.25" x 6", with a figure size of 5.75". The art paper is stapled to a 9" x 8" piece of black paper with five pegholes. A loose mat is included, with an opening of 7.75" x 6.5", and overall mat size of 9.5" x 11.25". Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
