    Description

Society Dog Show Mickey and Pluto Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1939). Mickey will try anything to get Pluto into this ritzy dog show - including improvising a pair of roller skates to strap on his hapless canine friend. After initially being shown the door, Pluto ends up saving the day. A clumsy photographer starts a fire and, in a thrilling climax featuring some dynamite animation, Pluto makes a harrowing rescue - saving his crush, Fifi the Peke. Many Disney greats worked on this short, including Shamus Culhane, Fred Moore, John Lounsbery, and Norm Ferguson, and it certainly shows in the results! Bill Roberts directs. Released on February 3rd, 1939, this short was the last to feature Mickey's pie-eyed design; for his next outing, Mickey's Surprise Party, he would receive an updated look, now familiar to legions of moviegoers. This drawing can be seen at the 6:29 point in the film, just after Mickey and Pluto have been knocked down by a stampede of show dogs. (They had been attempting to sneak back into the dog show.) Image area spans roughly 7" x 4". Characters are rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Some creasing and toning of paper. Drawing is in Good condition.
