    Description

Society Dog Show Group of 5 Mickey Mouse and Pluto Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1939). This knockout short features one of the most thrilling climactic scenes up to that point in cartoon history. After being booted out of a fancy dog show for his uncouth manners, Pluto must save his future girlfriend, Fifi "the Peke", from a burning building and ends up doing high-wire acrobatics - on roller skates, no less - before all is said and done. It was also the last appearance of the classic "pie-eyed" Mickey; starting with his next short, Mickey's Surprise Party, both Mickey and Minnie would receive their current, updated look, created by Fred Moore. Released to theaters on February 3, 1939, this short was directed by Bill Roberts, and featured the work of animators Norm Ferguson, Shamus Culhane, and John Lounsbery. This charming series of drawings can be seen at about 1:50 into the film. Mickey and Pluto have just arrived at the show and are setting up for the judging. These five drawings depict Mickey as he shines Pluto's nose with show polish, as he dusts off Pluto's bottom, and as he fills a spray gun with perfume! (The perfume causes Pluto to grow eyelashes and strike a coy pose, before he launches into a sneezing fit.) Both characters are rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Slight toning and creasing of paper. Drawings are in Very Good condition.
