Description

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Grumpy Animation Drawing by Robert W. Carlson (Walt Disney, 1937). Grumpy storms off after getting his kiss from Snow White in this outstanding 12 field 5-peghole animation drawing from Walt Disney's groundbreaking 1937 film. The dwarf was famously created by Disney Legend Vladimir Tytla (1904 - 1968) with help from his assistant Robert W. Carlson (1906 - 1990). Carlson helped Tytla bring various scenes to life and proved to be a legendary animator himself with 21 years at Disney working on Fantasia, Alice in Wonderland, and more. Later in his career, he would animate for UPA, Filmation, MGM, Hanna-Barbera, and even Sanrio. Tytla supervised this scene and this incredibly detailed graphite with color pencil drawing, found at about 1:07:44 as Grumpy makes his way to work, was created by Carlson with his initials in the upper right, showing how masterfully he captured the character. Grumpy is full figure at about 6.5'' x 4'' with a studio production stamp in the lower left, a note of 4 in the lower right, and stamped 39 on the back. The lot comes with a Howard Lowery Certificate of Authenticity and is in Very Good condition with only light edge and handling wear and faint age-related toning.
