Snoopy Sketch by Bill Melendez and Gifts Group of 4 (Art Babbitt Estate, 1971). Art Babbitt went on a Princess Cruise for his honeymoon with wife Barbera Perry in 1971. Back then, everyone was given a printed cruise schedule, a list of the Captain and crew, and a list of passengers. The passenger list of this cruise is included with this lot and shows Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Babbitt, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Melendez (Bill Melendez), and Charles Schulz. On this cruise, Bill Melendez, Art Babbitt, and Charles Schulz retired to the ship's lounge and their conversation apparently drew quite a crowd. This wonderful sketch of Snoopy with a mustache was drawn by Bill Melendez while there. A letter from Art Babbitt's wife on his personal stationary dated 12/2/07 tells the story of taking the cruise with Bill Melendez and his wife. It also explains that because the original signature faded, she had Bill re-sign the artwork after having it restored and backed with linen. It's an original drawing of Snoopy with a Bill Melendez mustache on tan paper of 30" x 36". Included with the drawing are three gifts Bill Melendez gave to Art Babbitt over the years -- a 1977 Bill Melendez belt buckle, a Bill Melendez alarm stop watch, and a book Sweet Was the Song. The artwork Is professionally restored. Condition is Very good. From the Art Babbit Archives.
