DescriptionSleeping Beauty Princess Aurora Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1959).
Sleeping Beauty holds a notable position in Disney animation as the last Disney feature to use hand-inked cels. Its art direction, which Walt Disney wanted to look like a living illustration, was not in the typical Disney style. Because Walt Disney Feature Animation had already made two features based on fairy tales - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella, Walt decided this one should stand out from its predecessors by choosing a different visual style. The film abandoned the soft, rounded look of earlier Disney films for a more stylized one. Sleeping Beauty was directed by three of "Walt's Nine Old Men," Les Clark, Eric Larson, and Wolfgang Reitherman, under the supervision of Disney Legend Inductee, Clyde Geronimi. Another Disney Legend Inductee, artist Eyvind Earle was the film's production designer, and Walt gave him a significant amount of freedom in designing the settings and selecting colors for the film. From this ground breaking film we have a superb animation drawing of Princess Aurora. The piece was rendered in graphite on 16 field 3-peghole animation paper. The drawing is in a frame measuring 20" x 17" with a mat opening of 15" x 12". Vintage animation art from a classic film like Sleeping Beauty would make a fantastic acquisition for any discerning collector! The artwork is in Very Good condition.
