Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Animation Pan Drawing (Walt Disney, 1959).
"Are you sure you searched everywhere?" Maleficent says to her henchmen in this amazing and rare 30" pan drawing from Walt Disney's 16th animated feature film, Sleeping Beauty. In the film King Stefan and Queen Leah welcome the birth of their daughter, Princess Aurora. The three good fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather bless Aurora with beauty and song, but Merryweather is interrupted by the arrival of the evil fairy Maleficent. Told that she was not invited, Maleficent turns to leave when suddenly the evil fairy curses the princess, proclaiming that Aurora will grow in grace and beauty, "but before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die." The drawing in this lot is truly a rare and important image from Walt Disney's masterpiece. The piece contains animator's notes to the cel painters along with a note indicating the cels should be 30". The artwork is in a frame of 35' x 18.5" with a mat opening of 29.5" x 12.5". Frame sold as-is. This is a very large piece of animation art and would be a fantastic acquisition for any discerning collector. Fine condition.
