Description

Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1959). "Come. We must go to the dungeon and cheer him up." It appears Maleficent has finally won and she sees fit to celebrate by visiting Prince Phillip in the castle's dungeons. The popular villain's design was finalized by Disney Legend and one of Disney's "Nine Old Men" Marc Davis, who also supervised Maleficent and Princess Aurora's animation. Davis' incredible animation was complimented by the amazing voicework of Eleanor Audley, who not only voiced Maleficent and Lady Tremaine but also acted as their live-action reference model. Maleficent and her loyal raven Diablo are off down the stairs of the castle in this lot with an enormous 16 field 3-peghole animation drawing from Sleeping Beauty. The detailed drawing of the Mistress of Evil is rendered in graphite with color pencil and is created for the key scene at about 1:01:21 timestamp, when Maleficent rises from her throne with a serene smile on her face. She takes up most of the page at about 10.25'' x 8.75'' and is numbered 169 in the lower right with a note in the upper right corner of the page. The lot is in Very Good condition with light edge and handling wear and faint age-related toning.
