Description

Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1959). "Come, we must go to the dungeon and cheer him up." The wicked enchantress Maleficent poses with refined elegance in this original animation drawing. Crafted over 65 years ago, this piece is masterfully rendered in graphite with color pencil accents on her dress skirt on 16-field animation paper. Gladly making her way to the dungeon for a round of villainous monologuing at Prince Phillip's expense, this image of Maleficent can be found in final form near the 1:01:23 timestamp of the acclaimed film. Maleficent's animation direction was led by one of "Walt's Nine Old Men", Marc Davis, who was also described by Walt Disney as a "Renaissance man" for his ability to master story, character, animation, and show design. Adding further to her iconic character, Maleficent's menacing poised voice was provided by Eleanor Audley (1905 - 1991), the same actress who voiced Lady Tremaine in Cinderella. The drawing measures an approximate image size of 10.5" x 8.75" and is numbered 173 in the bottom right corner. With light age-toning, minor handling wear with superficial wrinkles, edge wear including a few small nicks, minor debris, and two peghole supports. In Very Good condition.
