Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1959)."Well, here's your precious princess!" One of the most iconic, and perhaps the most popular, of all the Disney villains, Maleficent, the evil fairy with a grudge against King Stefan and the Queen, is featured here in this stunning animation drawing. Disney Legend Marc Davis oversaw the development and animation of Maleficent. (Being a master of depicting the female form, he was also in charge of Princess Aurora.) Voiced originally by Eleanor Audley, the character has remained extremely popular with strong merchandise sales, and inspired a hit film starring Angelina Jolie (with a sequel planned for release in October 2019.) This was to be the most artistically ambitious of the Disney films, and, through background painter and stylist Eyvind Earle, drew inspiration from worldwide traditions, but perhaps most heavily from Medieval European art. This drawing is taken from the very creepy and suspenseful sequence in which Maleficent has hypnotized the Princess, and lured her into the power to prick her finger and fall into a sleep. The three good fairies have just happened upon the scene; Maleficent taunts the three of them, triumphantly - flinging back her voluminous robes to reveal the Princess lying unconscious on the stone floor. An extremely large drawing, the dimensions were necessary, due to the film being photographed in 70mm Super Technirama 70 widescreen film. Rendered in graphite, Maleficent measures a stunning 15.5" x 9"! The drawing is matted and framed under Plexiglass with a mat opening of 19.5" x 12" in a 26.5" in a x 19" frame. Fame is sold as-is. Light handling wear. In Fine condition.
