Silly Symphony - The Spider and the Fly Background Layout Drawing (Walt Disney, 1931).
The Spider and the Fly is the tale of a spider who battles with a swarm of crafty flies. After the hairy, long legged arachnid wakes up, he begins to play his web like a harp attracting a pair of flies. When the female fly is trapped, the male summons help in the form of a swarm of flies arriving riding bees and butterflies. They begin the attack by dropping poison spray bombs and firing champagne bottle corks and straight pins at the spider. After dropping a lit match on the spider's web it catches fire causing the spider to fall onto flypaper, trapping him and ending the lopsided battle. From The Spider and the Fly we have a fantastic background layout drawing. The scene depicted in this drawing can be seen starting at the 1:32 mark as the camera zooms in on the bottle of poison used by the flies in their battle with the spider. The artwork is exquisitely detailed in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper and noted as scene 7. This original one-of-a-kind piece of production art is over 75 years old! Slight toning of the paper due to age; otherwise, the artwork is in Very Good condition.
