    Description

Sesame Street Magazine #121 Grover Original Front and Back Cover Art (The Parenting Group, 1983). Grover's unofficial debut was a similar-looking character on the Ed Sullivan Show. His official debut was in the second season of Sesame Street. He was played for years by Frank Oz. This is the original published front and back cover art for the February 1983 issue of Sesame Street Magazine, with Grover on both the front and the back. The theme was "One Day." Grover is waking up in the morning on the front, with the back cover showing him going to sleep. Stunning gouache on board of 18.5" x 14" with painted area of 16.5" x 11". Artwork is by Rick Brown who has signed on the bottom right corner. Nice images of Grover, measuring 4" and 6". Amazing detail. The acetate mechanical overlay with the title is included. Published Sesame Street artwork of any kind is very rare. Minor handling and edge wear. Some tape in white border, nowhere near images. Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
