Description

Self Control Donald Duck Animation Drawing Sequence of 4 (Walt Disney, 1938). "Self control should be your goal. Laugh and count to ten," chirps the radio. But still, Donald Duck's rage is building to a peak in this spirited sequence of 4 original animation drawings created for his theatrical short, Self Control. Directed by Jack King (1895 - 1958) and released on February 11, 1938, this short began the long standing character trope of Donald trying (and usually failing) to control his extremely reactionary temper. This outstanding sequence resembles the moment beginning near the 2:20 mark of the short when viewed online just after he falls from his hammock while trying to shoo a fly away, though the final scene may have been edited as Donald's mouth remains closed on screen. The sequence has been rendered in graphite and red pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper with a sequence number near the lower right including 77, 86, 90, and 93. Donald's closeup figure ranges size from 10" x 7" to 10" x 9.25", absolutely filling the frame as his face progressively fills rage; what a sequence! With typical handling and edge wear including age-related toning, minor smudging/staining, small edge creases/tears, and a crease/wrinkle through Donald's hat on drawing 90, overall this impressive temper tantrum is in Very Good condition.
