Description

Screwball Squirrel Screwy Squirrel Animation Drawing (MGM, 1944). "Imagine that stoop falling for the old seasick gag. All I did was move it up and down like this... ooo..." Tex Avery's Screwy sets himself up to be the victim of his own prank with this original animation drawing from his debut MGM film Screwball Squirrel. Premiering appropriately on April 1, 1944, this short starred the brand new and utterly outrageous Screwy Squirrel who Avery had begun developing the year prior. Having lured Meathead Dog to a dilapidated beached boat, Screwy fakes the rolling ocean waves with a painting near the 5:18 timestamp when viewed online before viewing the joke himself to nauseating effect. Screwy has been rendered in graphite to full-figure standing about 3.5" tall with the image area spanning nearly the full width of the mat aperture. The piece has been framed under glass to an overall size of 13.25" x 14.25" with an aperture of 7" x 7.5". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. This delightful piece comes from the estate of visual effects artist Sari Gennis (1954 - 2022) whose career in animation and effects spanned an impressive 35 years across on features from multiple studios including Disney, Sullivan Bluth Animation, and Kroyer Films. With typical handling and edge wear including age-related toning and superficial surface wrinkles, overall this quintessential Avery-type squirrel is in Very Good condition.
