    Description

Private Snafu Layout Drawing by Maurice Noble (Warner Brothers, c. 1940s). During World War II, Maurice Noble (1911-2001) worked under Frank Capra in a propaganda film division in a unit headed by Major Theodore (Dr. Seuss) Geisel. Also in the unit were Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, and John Sutherland, with who he created long-time working relationships. This is a rare background layout drawing by Noble for a Private Snafu cartoon short, possibly Operation Snafu. (He worked on Snafu cartoons from 1942-45.) Beautiful bamboo and Japanese foliage on 11.5" x 8.5" paper, with an 8" x 6" image area. The artwork is signed by Noble in bottom right corner. Extremely rare artwork for this much-loved World War II series. Fine condition. From the Maurice Noble Archives.
