Description

Preston Blair Original 21'' Painting (Walt Disney, 1940s). Presented in this lot is a gorgeous original gouache painting by author and animator Preston Blair (1908 - 1995) that breathes new life into a glowing cityscape with a couple sharing a tender, romantic moment. Preston Blair graduated from art school and intended to work as a fine artist, but rough times during the Great Depression led him to learn to animate and seek employment at studios in Southern California with his brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Mary Blair. He became known for his work on Fantasia, Pinocchio, Bambi, and a variety of shorts at Disney, his animation of Red Hot Riding Hood at MGM, and his invaluable instructional books that he released starting in 1948. He continued to paint throughout his life and accepted commissions for both illustration and advertising work. The painting in this lot is an original work created for illustration or Preston's personal artistic expression, measuring an impressive 21'' x 16'' on 25.5'' x 20'' board and rendered in striking detail. Good condition with light edge and handling wear, faint age-related toning, and faint residue and debris not on the painting.
