Plutopia Group of 3 Mickey Mouse and Pluto Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1951). "Well! This must be utopia!" The plot of the short concerns the attempt of Mickey and Pluto to spend a relaxing trip at the self-styled "sportsman's paradise," Camp Utopia. However, the restrictive rules severely limit Pluto's ability to enjoy the stay. Muzzled and kept outside, the poor dog dreams of chasing and catching the smug neighborhood cat, Milton. After being tormented by Milton the cat (both in his waking hours and in his dreams), Pluto finally gets his chance for revenge in the last seconds of the film. These drawings can be seen near the 6:06 point in the film, when Mickey rouses Pluto first thing in the morning and removes his muzzle. With Pluto formerly rendered harmless by the muzzle, he and Milton had been sleeping on top of each other on the welcome mat, with Pluto using Milton's heinie as a pillow. This film was released on May 18, 1951 and was directed by Charles A. Nichols. It features animation by Norm Ferguson, Les Clark, and Fred Moore (in his second stint at the studio). These three drawings show Mickey removing the muzzled from Pluto's jaws, as they are both framed in the open front door. The image area across all three drawings measures roughly 5" x 5". The characters are rendered in graphite and colored pencil. Drawings have only the faintest suggestion of handling. Except for the perforations made by staples in the upper left corner, they are both in Very Good condition.Auction Info
