Description

Plane Crazy Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1928-29). The Mickey Mouse short Plane Crazy was first shown as a silent film to a test audience on May 15, 1928. That makes it technically the first Mickey Mouse cartoon shown theatrically. It was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Ub reportedly worked six straight weeks on this short, with help from Hugh Harmon and Rudy Ising. Sound was later added and this short was formally released to the general public on March 17, 1929, making it the fourth Mickey Mouse sound cartoon. This is a rare 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of Mickey and Minnie in the plane. You can see this exact image at around the 4:00 mark into the cartoon. This drawing is attributed to the hand of Ub Iwerks, and is a major piece of Disney and Mickey Mouse history. A blue stamp with #8 is on reverse and 168 is written in the bottom corner. Large graphite image of plane with Mickey and Minnie and propeller movement, with an overall size of 7" x 6". This historic drawing is matted with an opening of 12.5" x 10", in a Plexiglas-front frame measuring 19" x 17". A print of a screen grab of this scene is included on the back of the frame. Frame is sold as-is; art condition is Very Good.
