Plane Crazy Frightened Driver Animation Drawing by Ub Iwerks (Walt Disney, 1928/1929). This landmark film in Disney animation history begins with the title card reading "A Walt Disney Comic by Ub Iwerks." Ub Iwerks worked six straight weeks on this film; it was first released as a silent short to a test audience on May 5, 1929, technically making it the first-ever Mickey Mouse cartoon. It was co-directed by Walt Disney. Sound was later added and the film was released to the general public on March 17, 1929, as the fourth Mickey Mouse short. This lot is an Ub Iwerks (1901 - 1971) original 12 field 2-peghole graphite animation drawing of the car and passenger that Mickey's plane almost hits in its long, almost-aborted takeoff. As the plane is running, a terrified Minnie pulls Mickey's ears back and the steering wheel of the plane is detached into Mickey's hands. The plane, headed down a road, almost hits this car and screaming passenger before it averts the crash. It can be seen in the short around the 3:52 mark. An amazing large animation drawing measuring 9" x 8", taking up almost the entire animation sheet. The number 60 is written in the bottom right corner, and a blue stamp that looks like 16 is on back of drawing in top left corner. This rare drawing is matted with an opening of 12" x 10" and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 20" x 18". A print of an actual screen grab is include with the piece. Frame is sold as-is. Artwork condition is Very Good. This is real animation history!
