Description

Pinocchio Stromboli Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). This powerful final animation drawing of the imposing and unscrupulous Italian puppeteer was created by Vladimir Tytla (1904-1968) and his assistant in production of the classic animated feature, and a cel painting was made directly from it. Stromboli introduces the sensational new performer for the conclusion of his marionette show, Pinocchio: "and by special permission of the management, that's-a me, too - questa lo noche - is presenting to you..." With this captured image seen in action near the 36:00 timestamp of the film. Vladimir Tytla supervised the animation of this scene, and the blue pencil underdrawing is his work. The initials of his assistant, Robert W. Carlson (1906 - 1990), Mr. Tytla's lead assistant animator, are written at upper right. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil, the image of Stromboli measures approximately 9.5" x 6" filling the space of the 12 field 5-peghole sheet of animation paper. Featured on the bottom right corner is a stamp of the drawing's production codes. The piece has minor age-toning, slight handling and edgewear, light stray marks from the rendering of Stromboli's manic expression, light creasing on the bottom corners, and three peghole supports. In Good to Very Good condition.
