Pinocchio Storybook Illustrations by Campbell Grant Original Art Group of 4 (Walt Disney, 1948). Carlo Collodi's puppet-come-to-life character never looked better than in Walt Disney's version. This 1940 animated feature, Disney's second after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, was adapted for a number of beautifully illustrated children's storybooks though the years. Here are four excellent examples painted by former Disney animator Campbell Grant (1909 - 1992) for a Little Golden Book edition. The book's title page has an overall image size of 5" x 6.75", including the "wood shavings" border and hand-painted lettering; art is on paper measuring approximately 6" x 8". The page 3 illustration of Geppetto constructing his wooden boy plus the initial-cap K have an image size of 4.5" x 5" on Bristol board measuring 6" x 7". The page 10 illustration of Pinocchio cavorting with Figaro the cat and Jiminy Cricket has an image size of 3.5" x 3.25" on board measuring 6" x 5" (this illustration is also used on the last page, in the first edition of the book). The final piece is from page 14, with Honest John and Gideon doing a "flim-flam" on Pinocchio; image size is 5" x 5.5" on board measuring 6" x 8". Great, colorful illustrations, painted in gouache with ink. Art condition is Good, with handling wear, minor soiling and edge staining, and tack holes.More information about Grant, Campbell Artist.
