Pinocchio Story Book Preliminary Illustration Art (Walt Disney/D.C. Heath and Co., 1940). The D.C. Heath and Company publishers in Boston released a series of Disney books from 1939 to 1951. The illustrations in the early books came from hand-painted nitrate cels with the black ink line art on one level, and color painted on level two. This process and history of these storybooks is outlined in the new book Ink and Paint: The Women of Walt Disney Animation by Mindy Johnson, on page 149. This is the original preliminary artwork for the book's final page with Pinocchio as a real boy along with Geppetto, Figaro, and Cleo. The art is in graphite on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper, marked "#52 page 90 reduce 1/3." Great overall images of all four, with an overall size of 6" x 6". A beautiful drawing! Minor handling and edge wear. Fine condition. A print of the book's final version (with slightly different facial details on Pinocchio) is also included.
