DescriptionPinocchio Set of 2 Animation Drawings, Pinocchio and Stromboli (Walt Disney, 1940). "Your face! She will be on everybody's tongue!" Giddy over his initial success, the volatile gypsy showman counts the night's box-office earnings and informs the naïve Pinocchio of his plans. Unbeknownst to Pinocchio, the seemingly jovial new "business partner" is only seconds away from violently blowing his top - much like the Sicilian volcano for which he is named. Legendary Disney animator, Vladimir "Bill" Tytla, well-known for his uncanny ability to portray powerful and threatening characters on-screen, was entrusted with bringing this villain to terrifying life. Jocular Disney story man T. Hee, provided the live-action reference footage for the character - and was himself directed in his performance by Ham Luske. Disney great, Milt Kahl was responsible for the final design of Pinocchio, bringing his look closer in-line with a real, human boy, and forgoing the character's colder, more geometric initial design. The film, released in 1940, was Disney's second feature effort, and today, is considered the epitome of artistic achievement in animation, particularly its effects work. This very large image of an imposing Stromboli measures roughly 7" x 4.5"; Pinocchio, on the second drawing, is roughly 3" x 4". Both characters are rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5 peghole animation paper. Stromboli drawing is stamped: "Prod. 2003, Seq. 4.4, Scene 8". Age-related toning and creasing throughout. Both are in Very Good condition.
