Pinocchio Original Storyboards Group of 5 (Walt Disney, 1940).
Walt Disney had been aware of Pinocchio long before deciding to adapt it for animation. Walt's nephew, Roy E. Disney recalled his uncle Walt reading the story to him before bed. However, Walt did not seem to consider it for a feature film until it was suggested to him by director, Ben Sharpsteen. Walt Disney owned the original Italian edition and several different English translations of the tale, and in 1937 Bianca Majolie, a member of the story department, made a new translation. Due to the pressures to complete Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, story meetings for Pinocchio do not begin until 3/24/38. In this lot are five amazingly detailed storyboard panels. A storyboard is a graphic representation of how the film will unfold, shot by shot. It's made up of a number of panels with illustrations or pictures representing each shot and what's going on in the scene. In this group of storyboards we see Pinocchio with donkey ears underwater. Each piece is rendered in graphite and colored pencil on animation paper measuring 8.5" x 6.75". The storyboards have pinholes where they were pinned to the storyboard wall. Storyboards are considered very rare and highly sought after by discerning collectors of animation art and movie memorabilia. Condition is Very Good.
