Pinocchio Geppetto Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940).
Looking dejected, Geppetto, the kindly old woodcarver, steels himself against the cold, and bundles up to go search for his lost son, the living marionette, Pinocchio. Geppetto's woodshop, normally a warm, inviting place, will be cold and empty when Pinocchio finally does make his way back home - only to turn right around to rescue his father from Monstro, the whale; this will be the task that Pinocchio must take on in order to prove himself "brave, truthful, and unselfish." This is an exceptionally large drawing, made on 16 field 5-peghole animation paper. It would have been taken from an original 12 field animation drawing, and used as a color model drawing for the cel inkers and painters. Notes to the Ink & Paint staff fill the margins of the piece, and offer a fascinating peek into the filmmaking process at Disney. Geppetto is rendered in graphite and colored pencil and measures 7" tall, with colored pencil shadow effects animation added behind his figure. Piece has been framed and matted under Plexiglass with a mat opening of 16" x 13" in a 21.5" x 19" frame. Frame is sold as-is. Light creasing and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
