Pinocchio Geppetto and Donald Duck Preliminary Illustration (Walt Disney, 1940). In an effort to cross-promote Pinocchio, a comic book story as well as a Courvoisier Art Gallery series of cels crossed Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck with the Pinocchio characters. Some commonly refer to this as "Donnocchio." We have sold several Courvoisier cels from this series in the past. This is first time we have come across rare studio artwork from this parody series. This is an outstanding one-of-a-kind drawing of Geppetto watching Donald Duck hand-carve a puppet head. Geppetto is on a 16 field 5-peghole animation sheet while Donald is on separate paper that has been trimmed to 8" x 8" and pasted onto the Geppetto drawing. The drawing is noted by hand, "#3310 Seq. 10 Unit 4." These are detailed drawings in graphite with red pencil highlights. Geppetto is a stunning 8" while Donald is 5". It's one of the most unique pieces of studio artwork we have seen. Minor glue stains on border of Donald. Minor handling and edge wear with slight tear in upper right corner, away from any artwork. Good overall condition.
