Pinocchio Coachman Animation Drawings Sequence of 3 (Walt Disney, 1940).
In a shady tavern, in the middle of the night, con-men Honest John and J. Worthington Foulfellow receive a business proposition from one of the many dastardly enemies the titular puppet must face throughout the film. The character of the Coachman asks the fox and cat duo if they'd like to make some "real" money...procuring "stupid little boys" specifically, the "disobedient ones," for forced labor. This cockney-voiced villain assures the others that there's no fear of being found out - their victims never come back..."as BOYS!" Once the wayward youth have been plied by alcohol, tobacco, and gambling on Pleasure Island, they are all transformed into donkeys for the salt mines. Pinocchio was released on 2/7/40 to positive reviews. The New York Times gave the film five out of five stars, saying "Pinocchio is here at last, is every bit as fine as we had prayed it would be-if not finer ..." Time Magazine said, "In craftsmanship and delicacy of drawing and coloring tops the high standard Snow White set." From this critically acclaimed film we have a fantastic sequence of three drawings featuring the Coachman. The images measuring 6" x 5" were rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. You will find these illustrations around the 49:01 mark in the film. Age-related toning, minor edge wear. Very Good condition.
