Pinocchio Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). Unsuspecting Pinocchio has just been sold into servitude by Honest John and J. Worthington Foulfellow; at this point in the film, he is still enjoying his initial success as a crowd-favorite. During the iconic "I've Got No Strings" musical sequence, Pinocchio astounds an audience as he dances, unencumbered by normal marionette strings, along with an international cast of puppets from the Netherlands, France, and Russia. Here, he dances alongside a crew of Cossack "Hopak" dancers ("Hey!!"), and grimaces as he accidentally kicks himself in his own behind, discovering a trick in the process. (Kicking himself in the rear helps him to keep rhythm - and provides an extra bit of momentum for the difficult dance step!) It is also during this scene that the audience is given its first hint of Stromboli's fearsome temper, which will shortly come into play... This charming animation drawing features the titular star rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5 peghole animation paper. He measures roughly 4" x 5". "Prod 2003, Seq. 4.2, Scene 42" is stamped in the bottom right corner. Drawing has some light creasing (image unaffected). In Very Good condition.
