Description
Peter Pan Captain Hook Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1953). "You wouldn't dare fight old Hook man-to-man! You'd fly away like a cowardly sparrow!" Captain Hook is at his wits end in this rough animation drawing as he tricks Peter Pan into not flying by calling him a coward, only because he knows that he can beat Peter Pan with his strength alone. "Roughs" or "rough animation", are created first to establish position, style, and timing for movement on screen, often done in a very loose style. Therefore, this rough animation drawing is never actually seen in the film making this a remarkable piece for any Peter Pan enthusiast to add to their collection. The animated feature film is based off the play by Scottish novelist and playwright James Matthew "J.M." Barrie (1860-1937), the adventure fantasy film follows English siblings, Wendy and her brothers, as they are whisked away to the enchanted world of Neverland by the hero of their fairytales, Peter Pan. The disheveled Captain Hook drawing would be used to create the image seen at the 1:10: 23. This memorable villain was brought to life by supervising animator, one of Walt's "Nine Old Men" and Disney Legend Frank Thomas (1912 - 2004) and was voiced by the great Hans Conried (1917 - 1982). Henry Conried has portrayed other iconic animated villains in notable works such as the wicked Wazir in 1001 Arabian Nights (1959) with Mr. Magoo and the despicable Snidely Whiplash in The Bullwinkle Show. The near full-figure image of Captain Hook measures 6.5" x 10.25" and is marked 'A-73' in the lower right corner with it expertly rendered in graphite. The overall condition is Very Good with very light age-related toning, light wrinkling, two pinholes near the bottom, light debris, and minor handling wear and edge wear.Auction Info
