Description
Peter Ellenshaw "Woods Cove" Original Oil on Canvas (1961). A stunning original painting by Disney Legend Peter Ellenshaw (1913 - 2007). The master of Hollywood visual effects beautifully interprets the California coast near Laguna in this original oil on 24" x 36" stretched canvas painting titled, "Woods Cove." Woods Cove is a small, secluded cove with deep tide pools of Cactus Point -which is home to Southern California's only blow hole. On a summer day, the water is so blue in the cove that you'll feel like you're in the Caribbean.Known most for his amazing visual effects on Mary Poppins (1964), which would earn him an OSCAR® at the 37th Academy Awards®, Peter Ellenshaw was a renown matte painter with well over 50 film credits. In 2017 he was posthumously inducted into the Visual Effects Society's Hall of Fame. "When you think that Mary Poppins was made without anyone setting foot outside a soundstage... you get some idea of what he was able to pull off," remembered film critic Leonard Maltin at the time of Ellenshaw's passing. In 1993 Peter Ellenshaw was inducted into Disney's hall of fame program and named an official Disney Legend. At his induction ceremony Roy E. Disney said, "He was a brilliant and innovative visual effects pioneer who was able to consistently please my Uncle Walt, and push the boundaries of the medium to fantastic new heights. Outside of the Studio, he was a fantastic painter in his own right, and I always loved his Irish paintings and felt that he did the best seascapes in the world." This stunning Ellenshaw seascape hung in an exhibition at the RW Norton Gallery in 1983. It's framed to 42" x 30". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.
