Peter Ellenshaw - "Seascape by Night" Painting Original Art (1955). This dramatic seascape was painted by Disney Legend, Peter Ellenshaw (1913 - 2007) in 1955. The piece is titled, "Seascape by Night", rendered on 28" x 30" canvas. Mr. Ellenshaw is known not only for his magnificent studio matte paintings but also for his gorgeous seascapes. At his Disney Legend induction ceremony in 1993, Roy E. Disney said, "...he was a fantastic painter in his own right, and I always loved his Irish paintings and felt that he did the best seascapes in the world." Ellenshaw began his long career as a movie studio matte painter in 1934 as an assistant matte painter on United Artists' The Scarlet Pimpernel. Over his seven-decade career, Peter would receive five Academy Award® nominations, taking home the coveted OSCAR® for his brilliant recreation of Edwardian London in Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. This 65-year old painting is signed and dated by the artist in the lower right. Condition is Very Good.
