Peter Ellenshaw RARE Cinderella Castle "Wedding Day" Preliminary Study Original Acrylic on Canvas (Walt Disney, c. 1950/2000s). Here's an original study by Peter Ellenshaw (1913 - 2007) for a Walt Disney Art Classics painting of Cinderella Castle. The study was for an original painting to be used for a limited edition. In Fine Art, a study is a drawing, sketch or painting done in preparation for a finished piece, as visual notes, or as practice. Studies are often used to understand the problems involved in rendering subjects and to plan the elements to be used in finished works, such as light, color, form, perspective and composition. Studies can have more impact than more-elaborately planned work, due to the fresh insights the artist gains while exploring the subject. The excitement of discovery can give a study vitality. This incredible original was rendered in acrylic on 11" x 14" stretched canvas. The art is signed in the bottom right by the artist. The back of the canvas is also signed by Peter Ellenshaw who notes on the piece "Cinderella's Castle Wedding Day". It's a terrific piece of the legendary artist's process! Ellenshaw's artistic career spanned more than seven decades. With well over 50 films to his credit, Peter would receive four Academy Award® nominations, taking home the coveted OSCAR® for his gorgeous matte paintings and stunning visual effects in Walt Disney's, Mary Poppins. Ellenshaw's film credits include, Treasure Island (1950), Spartacus (1960), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1968), The Black Hole (1979), and Dick Tracy (1990). Ellenshaw has received numerous awards from many prestigious institutions. Among them the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the American Film Institute in Chicago. In 1993 Ellenshaw was inducted into Disney's hall of fame program as an official Disney Legend. In 2017 Peter Ellenshaw was posthumously inducted in the Visual Effects Society's hall of fame. He also has the distinction of having his name appear in a window on Main Street in Disneyland an honor bestowed upon only a few who help create the magic. Beautiful works by Peter Ellenshaw decorate collections and galleries around the world.
