Peanuts A Charlie Brown Christmas Layout Drawing and Character Study Art (Bill Melendez, 1965). This first Peanuts special premiered on 12/9/65, sponsored by Coca-Cola. Charles Schulz wrote the script; the show was directed by Bill Melendez, with a score by jazz great Vince Guaraldi. The special was not expected to be a hit, but against all odds, it went on to win both an Emmy and a Peabody Award. Early development artwork from this landmark television special is quite simply never seen. This is an outstanding layout drawing from the opening skating scene, where Snoopy whips Charlie Brown and Linus around by Linus's blanket. (It can be seen right before the Opening Title at approximately 2:08 mark). Also in this lot is a series of character studies of Charlie Brown and Linus, when they walk to buy the infamous Charlie Brown Christmas tree. (This can be seen at approximately the 15:24 mark). Both pieces of historic development/concept art are on 12 field 3-peghole animation paper. Images are around 2" - 3" each. One is in red fine-line marker, while other done in graphite. Charming and very historic! Minor handling and edge wear. In Very Good condition.
