Osamu Tezuka - Dr. Thrill Original Manga Page (Shogakukan, 1959). From the hand of whom many regard as the godfather of manga as we know it today, Osamu Tezuka's (1928 - 1989) iconic style is on full display in this original manga page from his mystery detective series Dr. Thrill. Widely celebrated for creating the aesthetic known as anime with his seminal work Astro Boy, Osamu Tezuka is to Japanese cartoons what Walt Disney is to animation in the United States. The movement-defining artist created this astonishing original piece for his lesser-known manga titled Dr. Thrill, which appeared serially in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from the publication's debut in April 1959 through the following six months. The one-shot mystery chapters starred amateur detectives Dr. Thrill and his son Kenta with their dog Jip, and later evolved into a continuing long-form story with each character fulfilling a specific role to solve their cases. This original page features 3 panels numbered 158-160, each of which includes the recognizable Kenta with his unique hair style. The art is rendered in graphite and ink with whiteout art corrections and pasted-on panel numbers on paper trimmed nearly to edge with an image area measuring approximately 7" x 5.25". Original art for manga pages is incredibly hard to come by, particularly for titles by historic artists like the God of Manga himself, Osamu Tezuka. Overall, the lot shows some faint age-related toning, light stains, minor smudging, and general light handling and edge wear. In Very Good condition.More information about Osamu Tezuka.
