Description

Mouse Cleaning Tom and Mule Animation Drawing (MGM, 1948). You can hear Tom's internal dialog going "nope, nope, nope," as he swiftly carries the mule back outside in this hilarious original animation drawing from his MGM short Mouse Cleaners. Directed by Tom and Jerry co-creators Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, this short debuted on December 11, 1948 with Tom left in charge of sprucing up the house which Jerry predictably makes difficult. After saving the kitchen from a dozen-egg-disaster Tom finds that Jerry has let a mule in right through the front door, quickly moving to escort the shabby farm animal back outside near the 4:24 timestamp when viewed online. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil to full-figures, Tom and his unwelcome guest share a combined image area of 6.75" x 7" absolutely filling the right half of the 12 field animation sheet which is marked 99C near the upper right and bears a studio stamp along the lower edge reading Prod 182 Sc 32. This short has notably been edited for television airings and left out of most home media releases due to its inclusion of the controversial stereotype-driven character commonly known as Mammy Two Shoes, but recently saw a rare remastered Blu-ray/DVD release in December 2025. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, and minor surface debris, overall this comical drawing is in Very Good condition.
