Description
Mouse Cleaning 30.5" and 34.5" Pan Background Layout Drawing Pair (MGM, 1948). "Hold on there, you no good cat! Just look what you've done to my clean floors!" Tom has managed to get the floors spotless again as seen in this grand pair of 30.5" and 34.5" original pan background layout drawings from the MGM Tom and Jerry short Mouse Cleaning. Debuting on December 11, 1948 under the co-direction of Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, this short followed Jerry's antics in making a mess of the very house Tom has been left in charge of keeping clean. Seen less than a minute apart when viewed online, the approximately 10 second laundry scene (noted as Sc 26) begins near the 3:15 timestamp centered on the washing drum as Tom frantically cleans fountain pen ink from a curtain, while the shorter approximately 5 second kitchen scene (marked Sc 29) begins near the 3:44 timestamp as Jerry launches over half a dozen eggs towards the cabinets. Both rendered in graphite and colored pencil, the laundry scene has an impressive image area of 30.5" x 8.75" on a pan sheet composed of multiple pieces measuring 36.5" x 10.5" overall, and the kitchen scene measures an expansive image area of 34.5" x 8.75" featuring 3 rough sketches of Tom's positions as he saves the airborne eggs across another pieced pan sheet measuring 41" x 10.5" overall. Both sheets are noted as Prod #182 with included animator's notes and studio stamps found within the image area. These layouts are attributed to animator and layout artist Richard "Dick" Bickenbach (1907 - 1994) who created layouts for roughly 80 MGM Tom and Jerry shorts before following Hanna and Barbera to their newly-founded studio in 1957. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, vertical fold creases, remaining studio tape and peghole reinforcement, minor surface wear/staining, and small edge tears, overall this phenomenal pair of pan layouts is in Good condition.Auction Info
