Description
Mother Goose Goes Hollywood The Marx Brothers Animation Drawings Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1938). This wild pairing of Old Hollywood caricatures with Mother Goose rhymes was one of Disney's final Silly Symphony shorts. Directed by Wilfred Jackson, it was a holiday release first shown in theaters on 12/23/28. In the second segment of the cartoon, giggling comedian Hugh Herbert portrayed Old King Cole, who sends for his Fiddlers Three as played by that zaniest of Hollywood comedy teams, the Marx Brothers. In this group of three original 12 field animation drawings, we first see Chico and Harpo arrive with their instruments, with Harpo's foot in Chico's pants pocket (drawing #21B, overall image area of 5.5" x 6.25", seen in online viewings at the 1:27 mark). Next, cigar-smoking Groucho rolling his eyes as he appears ready to play a tune on his violin (drawing #38, figure size 6.5", seen at 1:37). Finally, Chico and Harpo lift their violins as they prepare to smash them on their knees (drawing #128, combined image area measuring 5.75" x 5", quickly seen at 1:40). The art is in graphite with red pencil highlights. Condition is Very Good on all three, with light paper toning and minor handling wear.Auction Info
