DescriptionMickey's Service Station Donald Duck and Goofy Animation Drawings Sequence of 3 (Walt Disney, 1935). Mickey Mouse and his assistant "mechanics" rush to find the cause of a squeak in Peg Leg Pete's car, in this frantic Ben Sharpsteen-directed short that arrived at theaters on 3/16/35. As Pete leaves, he steps on a squeeze-bulb auto horn and thinks he's getting the raspberry; he then turns and fires a pistol at the boys, making them nervously jump about to fix the car. In his panic, Donald accidentally oils Goofy's overalls; however, the sequence cuts off abruptly as the camera pans to a laughing Pete. Here are three original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings, two that appear to be the finish of this scene. In the short, Goofy never turns around to see Donald with the oil can. In two of these drawings, Goofy does turn around; these are numbered 286 and 299 in the lower right corners. One drawing, noted as 288, does match what is seen in the short at the 1:52 mark. The other two are not exactly like the film, but Goofy does appear in very similar poses right before Donald starts oiling. The figure sizes for Donald with his oil can range from 2.75" to 3.75", while Goofy averages 4.25". Drawing 286 has a neat horizontal fold crease right above the pegholes, but overall very minor handling wear and toning; condition is Very Good to Fine.
