Mickey's Rival Mickey Mouse, Minnie and Mortimer Animation Drawings Sequence of 5 (Walt Disney, 1936).
"For you senorita, I will fight the bull, yes, no?" Says Mortimer, as the slick Latin-style lover turns chicken bones into castanets and even taunts a bull into a fight in order to impress Minnie Mouse. The obnoxious character also helps himself to Mickey and Minnie's food - and plays a number of practical jokes on Mickey - before beating a hasty retreat from an angry bull - and leaving Mickey to deal with the problem. Rumor has it that the debonair character of Mortimer was designed after Walt Disney himself! The film was released on 6/20/36 and was directed by Wilfred Jackson. Famed Disney animator/directors Clyde Geronimi and Les Clark contributed their animation talents to the short. This sequence of drawings can be seen around the 3:50 mark in the cartoon when with a flourish, Mortimer whips the picnic blanket out from underneath Mickey to use it as a cape for the bullfight. This humorous sequence of drawings is rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Mickey stands roughly 5" tall with Mortimer measuring 6.5". The drawings show some age-related toning. The image of Minnie has significant edge wear and dark toning along the right side with additional damage to two of the pegholes. Otherwise, all are in Good condition.
