    Description

Mickey's Kangaroo Animation Drawings Sequence of 4 (Walt Disney, 1935).
Mickey's Kangaroo is a Mickey Mouse short, directed by David Hand and released on 4/13/35. In this animated cartoon, a friend of Mickey's from Australia sends him a kangaroo named Hoppy. Hoppy and her pesky son make Pluto crazy when they smash his new dog house, eat out of his bowl, squirt him with water from the well water pump, and send him careening down a hill in a wayward wheelbarrow. Meanwhile, Mickey wants to train the 'roos to be fighters, but they end up punching and roughing him up before throwing him in his hay-baling machine! This is a historically significant film in that it was the last black and white Mickey Mouse cartoon. In this rare sequence of drawings we see Mickey as he discovers the baby kangaroo (aka "joey") inside his mother's pouch. You will find these images starting around the 3:34 mark. These fantastic drawings were rendered in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper with an image area of 7" x 5.5". Mickey's Kangaroo included animation by one of "Walt's Nine Old Men," Les Clark, along with Fred Moore; Freddy would leave Disney in 1946 to join Walter Lantz and redesign Woody Woodpecker before returning to Disney two years later, in 1948. The drawings are numbered 95 (image size 3.75" x 4.5", with two "SHOT" stamps in the lower margin), 204A (image 8" x 5.5"), #208B (image 8.25" x 5.25"), and #209 (image size 4.25" x 5.5"). This is actual working production art with mild paper toning, reinforced pegholes, and minor handling wear; condition is Very Good.
