Mickey's Gala Premiere Hollywood Stars Animation Drawing and Inker Test Cel (Walt Disney, 1933). "Hollywood is on parade" in this wonderful early Mickey Mouse short, the first to have him interact with humans. Here is an exceptionally nice and extremely rare original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of Mickey surrounded by Hollywood stars of the era -- Chester Morris, Harry Langdon, George Arliss, Edward G. Robinson, Wallace Beery, and, with his back to the viewer, Charlie Chaplin. Wow! Burt Gillett directed this marvelous short, which hit theaters on 7/2/33. Great overall image of 9" x 5" in this graphite drawing. You can see this image at around the 6:27 mark. Also included is a full 12 field nitrate inkers test cel of four stars at the microphone: Harold Lloyd, Clark Gable (before his famous mustache), Adolphe Menjou (in his top hat), and Edward G. Robinson, all singing Mickey's praises. It can be seen at the 1:46 mark. If the Golden Age of Old Hollywood is your passion, this is a must; it's one of the only cel-based art pieces from this short we have ever seen. Both pieces are in one common Plexiglas-front frame measuring 18" x 26"; mat openings measure 12" x 9". Actual screen grab prints of both scenes are included on back of the frame. Frame is sold as-is; art and cel condition is Very Good. Hooray for Hollywood!

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
