Mickey's Gala Premier Mickey Mouse and Pluto Animation Drawings Sequence of 4 (Walt Disney, 1933). Mickey arrives for the premiere (yes, it's spelled "Premier" in the title) of his latest short subject, but Pluto is not quite ready to go inside the theater, in this wonderful sequence of five original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings. This Burt Gillett-directed cartoon, first shown on 7/1/33, is important on several levels; it was the first to show Mickey Mouse interacting with humans, as well as the first Disney cartoon to parody famous movie stars of the era. Over 40 celebrities were featured, including Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo, Wallace Beery, Laurel and Hardy, the four Marx Brothers, and many others. In England, BBC Television (which began broadcasting in 1936) used this short as the final program before shutting off services for the duration of WWII; it was also the first program shown when service resumed in 1946. This set of drawings all feature full-figure images of Mickey and Pluto, as Mickey tries to pull Pluto away from a tree and make his grand entrance. The graphite drawings are numbered 43-O (overall image size 4.75" x 3.5"), #43 G (4.75" x 3.5"), #43 1/2 C (4.75" x 3.5"), #52 (5.5" x 2.5" with added red and green pencil highlights), and #79 (5.75" x 4.25"). Paper displays some toning, with minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition.
