Description

Mickey's Circus Donald Duck Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1936).
"Introducing Captain Donald Duck - and his performing sea lions!" Mickey Mouse is a circus ringmaster and Donald Duck is a circus performer with a trio of sea lions in Disney's 1936 short subject film, Mickey's Circus. After Mickey introduces the performers, Donald enters the ring only to be stampeded by the sea lions and a young sea lion pup. When each trick is finished, the sea lions beg to be fed, throwing their balls at Donald and pointing to their mouths. Before Donald can feed the last sea lion, the pup intervenes and steals the fish. The resulting tug-of-war ends in the sea lions fighting over the fish. You can see this scene play out in this vintage animation drawing when Donald is hit in the mouth with a fish. Mickey's Circus, released on 8/1/36, was directed by Ben Sharpsteen who would go on to direct another circus film for Disney, Dumbo. Animation was done by two of "Walt's Nine Old Men", Milt Kahl and Frank Thomas along with Shamus Culhane. You will find this images around the 7:50 mark in the short subject film. The image of Donald measures 8" x 3.25". The drawing was rendered in graphite with colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Mild toning to the animation paper due to the age of the piece. Condition is Very Good.
